Hole 1
The opening hole at Ironhorse welcomes players with an elevated tee shot to a wide fairway. Longer hitters play attempt to go over the bunker on the left to get closer to the green, but the smart play is to keep it between the bunkers to leave yourself a short iron or wedge into a large green that falls off on all sides.

Hole 2
Welcome to Ironhorse. As comfortable as the 1st hole was, the 2nd is anything but. This par 3 is all carry to a large green that slopes towards the front right portion. Shots coming up short of the green will likely roll back down the hill to the creek so be sure to get your tee shot to the middle of the green. A two putt par is welcome treat at this hole.

Hole 3
The fun continues on the 3rd hole. An elevated tee shot to a fairway flanked by trees requires conviction. With a deep fairway bunker on the right, the best play is to the left side of the fairway. The green is multiple ridges that can make it difficult to hit a close approach.

Hole 4
The first par 5 on the course offers a great opportunity to pick up strokes that might have been lost on the previous holes. A wide fairway invites you to give the driver a rip to have an opportunity to get home in two however the layup is fairly straightforward if needed. This long green can be attacked from the air or the ground.

Hole 5
The only par 3 on the course that does not force you to carry over a penalty area. However, with four bunkers protecting all sides of the green, this hole still has plenty of teeth. A long green that sits fairly level to the tee boxes makes depth perception tricky. A shot to the center of the green will leave a comfortable two putt to any hole location and a welcomed par.

Hole 6
Those playing the Black, Blue, or White tee boxes will be challenged with a tee shot that must cover a pond that is deceptively longer than it appears. The pond actually extends along the right hand side of the fairway creating a cove that Ironhorse regulars nicknamed after one of their own whose tee shots often found a watery demise here. The challenge continues as players will then have to navigate their second shot through a gap of trees to a green protected by bunkers left and right.

Hole 7
Leave your ego in the cart and play this hole strategically to create the most birdie opportunities. Lay up off the tee to 100 yards and then use a trusty wedge to attack this large green protected by a creek in front and golf ball swallowing native grasses left and long.

Hole 8
The fairway at the 8th is widest at 150 yards from the green. This is the ideal yardage to play to off the tee as the fairway becomes significantly more narrow and slopes to the creek. This same creek also protects the front of the green with runoff areas on both sides and a bunker long.

Hole 9
The front nine finishes with a par 5 that is anything but a pushover. A tee shot that splits the timber area hiding a creek on the left and the bunker and out of bounds on the right will afford the longest hitters an attempt to get near this green in two. Most players will need to lay up and those in the know will elect to lay up at the 150 yard marker for most dependable approach to the green. Doing so will prevent layup shots from finding the creek that cuts diagonally across the hole. This long green has a large ridge running across the middle. Players will need to keep their approach on the correct side of the ridge for the best look at birdie.

Hole 10
The 10th hole at Ironhorse might be the most feared hole in Kansas City. A predominant south wind brings in the out of bounds on the right. And while trees framing the left side of the tee shot block the view of the creek that runs along the entire left side of the hole, you know it is still there. The challenge continues from there as the second shot must be threaded between trees. The elevated green is long and set at an angle making dept perception a challenge on your approach. With steep runoffs and bunkers on both sides, getting safely aboard is no small task but once you reach the green, you’ll be met but a putting surface that is reasonably gentle.

Hole 11
Just how bold do you want to be? That is the question that the 11th hole makes every golfer answer. Three distinct fairways provide options for the player off the tee, each with their own set of risk and reward. Longer players may opt for the driver and go for the green. Others may opt for the fairway on the left whcih provides a nice angle to the green. Others may choose the short fairway in front of the tee, but be mindful of the creek that cuts across the hole and then runs up along the green. The green itself has a ridge running through it that can be used to help get your ball close, or will repel improperly judged shots.

Hole 12
The 12th hole is a beautiful par 3 played from an elevated tee to a large and receptive green. Be mindful of the hole locations as few go over this green and live to tell the tale. The green itself has considerable slope thanks to a ridge running across the middle. Go on, be aggressive.

Hole 13
The elevated tee shot at the 13th is framed by a creek on the left and out of bounds on the right. Be mindful of club selection off the tee as the fairway is cut off by the creek leading to a forced carry for the approach ot the green. The green itself is fairly large and considering you’ll likely have a short club in your hand, offers a great opportunity to be aggressive. The only safe miss is short and right so be sure to commit to the shot and land safely on the green.

Hole 14
The last par 5 on the course and a great opportunity to pick up some strokes. Longer hitters will want to challeng the corner or on the right to pick up some extra yardage. The second shot plays down hill making the green even more reachable in two. The green itself is large an protected by three bunkers. If you’re going to miss though, miss right as the trees all along the left side of the hole are hiding the creek. Once on the green, players will be met with a green that is very straightfoward.

Hole 15
You’re not out of the woods just yet, literally. The tee shot on the 15th plays out of a chute of trees to a fairway below. A creek runs the entire left side of the fairway which is also bordered by out of bounds to the right. Accuracy off the tee is more important here so pick your straightest club. The green is slightly elevated from the fairway and protected by a creek and large tree on the right. A ridge running across the middle of the green will make long putts even more challenging so be sure to get the correct yardage for your approach.

Hole 16
Yes, there is a fairway there, we promise. Tee shots played at or left of the 150 yard pole will certainly find the creek that runs along the left side of the hole. The best play is to take it over the trees on the right. From there, you’ll have an uphill approach to a very large green that is flanked by bunkers left and right. The green itself has multiple small ridges that can make putting quite difficult.

Hole 17
The last par 3 of the day again plays from an elevated tee to a very large green. While there is a creek that runs across the hole, it is well short of the green and should not be of concern. The green itself is protected by three bunkers and again has multiple small ridges that will make putting more diffocult.

Hole 18
If you were hoping for an easy finishing hole, well, hold that thought. The 18th hole plays from an elevated tee to a fairways flanked by a creek on the left and out of bounds on the right. What’s more, there is a long forced carry from the tee to get to the fairway but tee shots hit too far will run through and find yet another creek. You’ll likely be faced with a mid to long iron into this long green with mutiple steep ridges. The green is protected by two bunkers and a steep slope on the left, and a wide area of native grasses to the right. You’ll need your Sunday best to cap your round off with a birdie.
